I am NOT medically trained or a crystal healer! But in the course of identifying and learning more about gemstones that I find, I often come across metaphysical healing properties attributed to them. I think wearing gemstones and crystals is an interesting addition to wellness and positive living but I would never advise that you ignore traditional medical assistance when needed! Healing information here is gathered from several sources and meant for those curious about what they are wearing.
Agate: Stress relief, protection, self-confidence, digestive process, concentration, negative energy transformation. Agate is said to bring hidden information to light and facilitates spiritual growth. In ancient Rome it was considered a truth amulet. Tree Agate: Helps immune system, fighting infection, good for positive self-esteem, eyes, stomach, lymphatic system, pancreas and skin disorders. Botswana Agate: Can be used to treat disorders of the nervous system and help to rid the body of toxins, and can counteract poisoning on the physical, emotional, and intellectual planes. Helpful in overcoming addictions and other self-destructive or compulsive behavior patterns. Wearing Botswana Agate Jewelry is considered favorable to those who work with plants, trees and around water as it is thought to draw positive energies from them.
Amazonite: Generally used to help soothe the nervous system and to give some relief to those who are suffering from emotional disturbances. Also helps with one's metabolism and growth. Useful when trying to express oneself more clearly. Offers spiritual protection. Regulates and improves thinking abilities. Is thought to be beneficial for musicians and writers.
Amethyst: Spiritual, calming, cleansing. Good for: immune system, headaches, bruises, cellular and digestive disorders, insomnia, anxiety, fear, metabolism and overcoming addictions. Historians say that wine goblets were once carved from amethyst and amulets in ancient Greece were worn because it would protect you from getting drunk. It is said to help people preparing for death and coming to terms with loss.
Andalusite: Encourages rational thought and seeing problems from all angles – for that it is often called “the seeing stone”. Associated with the solar plexus and heart chakras, it is thought to be beneficial for eye problems, AIDS, and calcium deficiencies. Can be used during meditation to help unlock past life memories.
Apatite: The bones and teeth of most animals, including humans, are of the same material as Apatite. It is beneficial to bones, teeth, cartilage, coordination, muscle strengthening, hypertension, hunger suppression and metabolism. It gives the wearer a willingness to let go of useless or negative life aspects. It also clears frustrations and helps with communication. Apatite is said to be helpful for hyperactivity and autism.
Aquamarine: The sailor's stone, said to protect against drowning. Helps increase tolerance and decrease self-defeating patterns. Beneficial for motivation, communication, pain, bones, teeth, joint pain/problems and hypertension.
Aventurine: Luck, opportunity, empathy, anxiety relief, a very positive stone good for: nervous system, connective tissue, blood pressure, heart, allergies, sinuses, migraine headaches. Wearing aventurine is said to protect against environmental pollution and electromagnetic stress. Peach: Lucky, new possibilities, quiets inner critical voice. Green: A comforting, all-purpose healing stone. Traditionally worn to strengthen eyesight and known as lucky for gamblers. Blue: A powerful mental healer, increasing vitality and positive outlook.
Beryl: I've heard it called the "mother of gemstones" because beryl is kind of a generic name for several minerals. Clear beryl is called goshenite, green is emerald, pink is morganite, yellow is heliodor and blue is aquamarine. In general, beryl strengthens the pulmonary and circulatory systems and increases resistance to toxins. It is said to increase courage while calming the mind and filtering out distractions. Also thought to be good for those with eating disorders and issues of the digestive system.
Bloodstone: Also called Heliotrope. Bloodstone is a deep green stone with small red specks. The small red specks are where the stone gets its name. They make the deep green stone appear to be spotted with blood. In ancient Babylon it was believed to cause stone walls to crumble. Blood cleanser, immune system stimulator, good for grounding and protecting, reduces irritability and impatience. It is said to help with calming, particularly in survival situations. It brings mystical energies of increasing adaptability and organization, and lessening confusion and anxiety. It is said to be a stone of courage, bringing mental, physical and emotional renewal by releasing blockages. It is said to be particularly good for helping emotional traumas and grief. Bloodstone is mystically used to bring energy to one in many ways, including bringing abundance and prosperity. Said to be helpful in treating anemia and other diseases of the blood, blood pressure, cardiovascular system, endocrine system, kidney, bladder, physical strength issues, physical traumas, and post-surgical issues.
Calcite: Helps with motivation, memory, emotional stress, skeletal and joint systems, intestinal conditions, skin healing and immune system, ulcers and warts. The stone is thought to be a powerful cleanser of energy. Orange: Helps gall bladder, improves physical energy, Expands awareness, aids intuition, links parallel realities. Clear: Revitalizes the aura, cleanses and realigns the chakras. Blue: Filters energy, quiets the mind and brings clarity and relaxation.
Carnelian: Healing, courage, joy, peace, action, lust, dramatic pursuits, vitality, concentration, a stabilizing stone with high energy. Beneficial for blood disorders and circulation, fertility and impotence, arthritis, kidneys, and lower back disorders. Ancient Egyptians felt it helped the soul in the afterlife and removes the fear of death.
Charoite: Assists you in fulfilling your life plan and encourages service to humanity, while transforming negative energy into acceptance. Putting charoite and amethyst under your pillow is thought to realease fears that come up when dreaming. It allows you to free your thoughts from those of others which can release you from victimization and make you more assertive. Good for heart and nervous system afflictions, vigor, insomnia, liver, alcohol detoxification, pancreas, worry and stress.
Citrine: Protection, anti-nightmare, luck, prosperity, self-esteem, self-confidence, individuality, self-expression, optimism, energy, detoxification, reverses self-destructive behavior. Citrine is said to cleanse all the chakras but never needs cleansing itself, and should be worn in contact with skin. Beneficial for digestion, circulation, eyes, kidney and bladder infections.
Copper: (I know, not exactly a gemstone but still felt to have wellness benefits) healing, attracting love and money, releasing, protection, luck.
Coral: A hard substance formed of skeletons of various marine polyps, coral is said to promote general physical and mental well-being and to be of particular assistance to those suffering from anemia, bladder conditions, colic and whooping cough. In many parts of the world it is believed that coral can be used to ward off evil thoughts sent by ill-wishers.
Dalmatian Stone (Aplite): Mood elevation, balancing, protects from negative energy and nightmares, beneficial for athletes and helps with sprains, nerves and reflexes.
Diamond: An amplifier of energy (positive and negative), it assists with imagination, clarity, fearlessness, and commitment issues. Beneficial for glaucoma, chronic conditions, and allergies.
Dolomite: Dolomite encourages self-realization, a sense of tradition, and helps us acclimate to new communities. It is used by healers to stabilize health, especially blood, the heart, and circulation. Dolomite is a gentle stone that encourages charitable actions, generosity and giving of all kinds, as well as receiving. It also encourages energetic thinking, spontaneity, creativity, and manifestation. It can help develop stamina for dealing with hyperactive people. It stabilizes both human and mineral energies, and when placed strategically in a home with other minerals they balance the energetic atmosphere. It is a particularly good stone for relieving sorrow, and soothing hurt, loneliness and anxiety. Also beneficial for strengthening bones, teeth, muscles, and the female reproductive system. It reduces the effects of PMS and dissolves cramps.
Emerald: Meditation, friendship and loyalty, balance, mental clarity, memory, patience, unconditional love. Beneficial for sinuses, lungs, heart, spine, vision, diabetes, malignant conditions and recovery from infectious illness. In ancient times emeralds were bound to the left arm of travelers for protection on their journey. One source of information states that emeralds should not be worn constantly because they can be overstimulating.
Fluorite: Cleanses the aura. Brings organization to the mind, logic, balance, self-confidence. Beneficial for shyness, teeth, bones, colds, flu, ulcers, joints, shingles, spinal injuries, and nerve related pain. Helps to block electromagnetic pollution. Blue: Calms or revitalizes energy as needed, also good for eyes, ears, nose, and throat. Green: Dissolves emotional trauma and absorbs negative energy.
Garnet: Healing, protection, strength, past life regression, travel protection, circulation, attracting love, dreaming, alleviates emotional disharmony
Gold: Purification, warmth, love, abundance, energy, prosperity.
Hematite: A good stone for soldiers, it is said to protect those going into battle. Also for memory, clarity, stress relief, banishing negativity, healing, self-esteem, and good for: blood, iron absorption, anemia, kidneys, and circulatory problems. Beneficial to inflammation but should not be worn where the inflammation actually is. Protects the soul and aura.
Hemimorphite: A protective stone which brings good fortune and helps you manifest your highest potential. Beneficial for social responsibility, goal setting, pain relief, heart and blood, burns, cell structures and ulcerative conditions.
Iolite: Sometimes called “water sapphire” because it is usually light blue when cut/faceted. It reenergizes and realigns the aura. Beneficial for infections, fevers, detoxification, sinuses and the respiratory system.
Jade: All jade is said to be of help in relieving kidney complaints, bladder trouble and eye problems.
Worn as a piece of jewelry, jade is thought to provide protection from one's enemies and can be used to protect one on long journeys. Also to attract good luck, for wisdom and long life. Brown jade assists in adjusting to a new environment. Orange and Yellow jade brings joy and brings understanding of how all beings are connected. Turquoise and Blue jade brings peace and patience. Lavender jade brings peace and helps to heal emotional pain and trauma. Red jade helps shy people be more assertive, and releases tension in positive, creative ways. White jade assists in decision-making.
Jasper: All jasper helps with beauty, health, healing, protection, stability, balancing emotions, calming, quick thinking, circulation, digestion, sexual organs and imagination. Red and Brecciated jasper calms aggressiveness and helps blood and liver issues. Place a piece of red jasper under your pillow to help remember dreams. Blue jasper connects you to the spiritual world. Brown jasper helps alleviate environmental stress and heals the aura after trauma. Green jasper helps the wearer have empathy for others and heal disease – good for long illnesses or hospitalization. Ocean jasper is also called an Atlantis Stone and is said to contain the properties of jasper, agate and quartz. It aids us in seeing how all beings are connected and helps cope with change. Leopardskin jasper is said to bring you what you need (even though that may not always be what you want). Picture jasper protects women during childbirth, and brings forth repressed feelings from past and present lives to be released. Yellow jasper keeps you on your life path and channels positive energy. It is said to bring pain relief when placing it on the site of pain, and is a beneficial stone for clumsy people.
Labradorite: Excellent for strengthening intuitions. Use to stimulate imagination, develop new ideas, and see more clearly in meditation. Healing for eyes, brain, blood pressure, gout and rheumatism. Regulates metabolism.
Lapis Lazuli: Lapis brings truthfulness, openness, inner power, intuition, creativity, virility and manifestation. It can help organize daily life as well as organizing and quieting a busy or restless mind. Lapis also helps build self-confidence, and is a stone traditionally for royalty. Lapis is also said to help one overcome shyness. It is associated with the throat and brow chakras and can help one say just the right thing. Lapis is helpful for sinus ailments, headaches, nervous system, speech problems, pituitary gland and pain relief. Ancient Romans believed lapis lazuli to be an aphrodisiac. It was also ground down, mixed with milk and applied as a dressing for boils and ulcers. Powdered lapis was used as eye shadow by Cleopatra (supposedly – I wasn’t there).
Lepidolite: Beneficial for addictions, anorexia, nightmares, obsessive thoughts, bipolar disorders, repetitive strain injury, joints, connective tissues, immune system and digestion. Excellent for clearing electromagnetic pollution (place on computers) and filtering out distractions so you can focus on what’s important. It activates and opens all chakras.
Malachite: Malachite contains copper and it is claimed that it is helpful in the treatment of rheumatism and also in regularizing menstruation. Beneficial also for asthma, toothaches, gallbladders, insomnia, blood pressure, spleen, tumors, vertigo and diabetes. Raises one's spirits and increases hope, health and happiness. It attracts physical and material benefits and brings prosperity. It relieves any congestion in the body and helps with confusion and lack or purpose and insecurity.
Moonstone: Emotional healing, said to protect sailors at sea and travelers on water, lucid dreaming, a stone of new beginnings filled with feminine energy. Good for sleepwalking and for all things feminine. Rainbow moonstone: Additional to properties of regular moonstone, helps you see the unseen and read symbols. Good for internal organs, eyes, arteries and veins. Rainbow moonstone is said to house a spiritual being (which keeps me from putting any in the rock tumbler because I would feel weird about grinding away at a spiritual being!).
Onyx: Said to improve concentration, stability, self-control and devotion. It banishes old habits and helps you fulfill your destiny. Helps hearing problems, heart trouble, teeth and bones, stamina, feet, blood disorders and ulcers.
Opal: Considered to be one of the 7 sacred stones of the Cherokee people. Opals can be around 10% water and are very fragile if they dry out. It is said to be a “Karmic” stone – where if it is not used for good things will backfire on you. Helps you blend in when you are trying not to stand out. It is known to bring good dreams and eases change. It also amplifies and mirrors emotion which can lead to lowered inhibitions and being more spontaneous. Beneficial for self-worth, loyalty, infections and fevers, purifying blood and kidneys, eyes, ears, PMS and regulating insulin. Peruvian blue opal also promotes acting for the greater good and communication from the heart. It creates inner serenity and heals old emotional wounds. Fire opal enhances and revitalizes personal power. It releases deep feelings of grief and anything blocking your creativity. Excellent for business and progress, and can help reestablish healthy relationships.
